Cambridge Society of Tuscany and Umbria
The Cambridge Society of Tuscany and Umbria is a new alumni group set up this year in 2003 with a view to organising activities and events for the 100 or so alumni living in these regions of Central Italy.
Our inaugural lunch was held at Villa Strozzi in Florence on Sunday 18th May, with an impressive 27 attending! The Tuscan cuisine was enjoyed by all, followed by a series of short speeches enlivened by an aria from one of our members!
Our group is relatively small, being mainly composed of university buffs and members dragged reluctantly from their villas and farmhouses on hilltops dotted around the Tuscan and Umbrian countryside. Our activities revolve around wine and cuisine in various locations providing a historical or cultural pretext for us to meet! We are setting up links with the Florence Boat Club, and are planning to organise a few rusty regattas in the near future.
Current plans include: Central Italy (mixed) cricket team, Book Club, visits to galleries in Florence and art restoration work in progress, whisky tastings and Christmas Dinner in Siena.
We are always happy to hear from alumni moving to Central Italy, or passing through on their holidays!
