HOW TO GET TO EMPOLI:

  How to get to EMPOLI by car, from MILAN: 

From MILAN, take the motorway A1 towards ROME. 
FLORENCE is about 290km from MILAN, so the journey should take approx. 3 hours' driving time at an average speed of 100kmh.
Leave the motorway at the exit FIRENZE-SIGNA. 
Follow the blue signs for S.G.C. FIRENZE-PISA-LIVORNO, until entering this "superstrada" (high-speed dual-carriageway), direction PISA-LIVORNO. 
DO NOT take the direction FIRENZE CENTRO, which will bring you 
to Florence city centre.
Drive along the "superstrada" until the exit EMPOLI EST 
(after about 30 mins) and follow directions to EMPOLI by turning 
left towards the town.

  How to get to EMPOLI by car, from ROME:

From ROME, take the motorway A1 towards MILAN. 
FLORENCE is about 230km from ROME, so the journey should take approx. 2 hours' driving time at an average speed of 100kmh.
Leave the motorway at the exit FIRENZE-SIGNA. 
Follow the blue signs for S.G.C. FIRENZE-PISA-LIVORNO, until entering this "superstrada" (high-speed dual-carriageway), direction PISA-LIVORNO. 
DO NOT take the direction FIRENZE CENTRO, 
which will bring you to Florence city centre.
Drive along the "superstrada" until the exit EMPOLI EST (after about 30 mins) and follow directions to EMPOLI by turning left towards the town.

  How to get to EMPOLI by car, from PISA:

From PISA, take the superstrada S.G.C. FIRENZE-PISA-LIVORNO towards FLORENCE. After about 50km or 30 minutes' drive, leave the superstrada at EMPOLI EST and follow directions to EMPOLI by turning left towards the town.

  How to get to EMPOLI by car, from FLORENCE:

From FLORENCE, take the superstrada S.G.C. FIRENZE-PISA-LIVORNO 
towards PISA-LIVORNO. DO NOT take the direction FIRENZE CENTRO, 
which will bring you to Florence city centre.
Drive along the "superstrada" until the exit EMPOLI EST 
(after about 30 mins) and follow directions to 
EMPOLI by turning left towards the town.

     How to get to EMPOLI by train:

There are frequent train services running to or via Florence main station, SANTA MARIA NOVELLA (the other Florence stations are RIFREDI and CAMPO DI MARTE), leaving from MILAN central station or from ROMA TERMINI. From Florence one can take a local train to EMPOLI.

Those travelling to EMPOLI from MILAN or ROME, should take a first train to the FLORENCE main station SANTA MARIA NOVELLA, and then, changing, take a train to EMPOLI (look for EMPOLI as an intermediate stop on the station's main Departures board - these will be trains leaving for, usually, Siena or Pisa Airport or Pisa main station, or Livorno), of which there will be at least two each hour.

The train journey from MILAN to FLORENCE usually takes less then 3 hours, depending on the train type (Eurostar is fastest, regional trains are slowest). 

The train journey from ROME to FLORENCE usually takes less then 2 hours, depending on the train type (Eurostar is fastest, regional trains are slowest). 

For those travelling from PISA, the journey should take less than 45 minutes. EMPOLI is on route from PISA, so it is not necessary for visitors to go via FLORENCE.

For those wishing to travel by air, the best airport to arrive at is FLORENCE PERETOLA AIRPORT or PISA AIRPORT, alternatively MILAN or ROME, from where visitors can hire a car, or take a train, in order to reach EMPOLI, by following the directions given above.
